With bravery and determination, Anna faces difficulties and doubts which arise during the trip.  Guarded after being wounded by Martin, her former fiance; she struggles with her desire for a romantic friendship with the handsome Captain Yarborough and the resignation that no man can accept  her independent nature and allow her to fulfill her goal to teach.

 

Anna's faith in God carries her through the adversities she faces before and after arriving at her destination and starting her new occupation in the rugged environment of Indian Territory.
